Star anise, also known as star aniseed, is the star-shaped fruit of the star anise tree, a tree native to Asia. Harvested before ripening and then sun-dried, it reveals a distinctive eight-pointed shape, each point containing a shiny seed.

Highly fragrant, star anise develops powerful, warming aromas reminiscent of aniseed, liquorice and a slight peppery note. Its mild, sweet flavour adds a refined touch to culinary creations.
