Product notes

Caraway seeds are the dried fruits of a herbaceous plant that has been cultivated for centuries in Europe and Asia. Also known as ‘meadow cumin’, they are distinguished by their elongated shape and characteristic aroma.

Caraway develops a warm, slightly aniseed-like flavour, combined with peppery, lemony and subtly sweet notes. Milder than cumin, it adds a delicate and refined aromatic touch to dishes.

Highly prized in the cuisines of Central, Northern and Eastern Europe, it adds flavour to breads, cheeses, cabbage, potatoes, vegetables, meats, cured meats and stews. It is also used in the production of certain liqueurs and traditional spice blends.

Caraway seeds can be used whole or lightly crushed to fully release their aromas. Renowned for their digestive properties, they add an authentic and fragrant note to many recipes whilst enhancing the flavours of the ingredients they accompany.
